Howdy Mike! If I were you I'd do some searching on the oil topic. Read this: http://www.vn750.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3391&highlight=thread and the links on that thread and you can make your own decision pretty easy. Other than that, we've all got opinions!
as long as it is oil of correct weight and not of "energy conserving" type you are fine regardless of the brand - just use whatever favorite brand you have available localy. i used synth oil last change and nothing is slipping so far.
and as far as sinth vs dino. my take on it is as long as it is correct weight and inside the engine (vs in the bottle) it doesn't really matter since at the end you will have good running engine anyways and any problems with it will not be due to oil but something mechanical. obviously the changes at correct intervals are needed.
Ohhhhh...good Lord!!! Not another oil discussion thread.........
Whatever oil type/brand you finally choose, be sure to change it often enough....dirty oil and excess heat are the big stator killers.
Frequent oil changes are obviously are pretty easy compared to any stator swapout.
Fergy's above link does give some good reading, though.
