Hi all!,
I'm about to buy a 1993 Vulcan 750.it needs a new motor and some tlc.im only paying 200 bucks for it but is the bike worth it? And if so should I just get the motor rebuilt?
I've never Owned a Vulcan before and so I don't know much about them.
Thanks for all your help!

For $200 that is not bad. It depends if you want to put that kind of work into a bike or not, but the price is right.

You can buy running motors for around $500. I assume there's probably another $200 in stuff required, but that would get you on the road for under a grand.

There is no complete rebuild kits/gasket kits, and each has to be individually ordered. It'd probably be easier to get a running motor that doing a rebuild, but if you want to, a rebuild would cost you probably $200 in gaskets, $50 in bearings, and whatever the cost of the broken pieces are inside.

Depending on the condition of the bike and current parts, you could part out the bike for profit.

Ok great thanks!
I'll go and buy the bike then.two more questions 1. Where can I find another motor for the bike? I've been looking on line and can't find a thing.
2. Are the 1980s vulcans worth more then the 1990s?
Thanks!!

There is a Kawasaki dealer in Gila Bend, AZ. who has advertised used 750 engines. Unknown about shipping.

There are a ton of VN750 engines on eBay. Any engine from an 86 -> 06 will bolt on.

The 80s vulcans are the same as the 90s in every respect. The newer the bike, the slightly more value it is worth, even if it's the same model.

Where in Northern NJ are you...I am in the area I bet....PM me if you need help.

What is the issue with the motor? it might be something that is not that complicated to repair.

It will run roughly $200.00 to $250.00 to ship a complete motor depending on who you use to ship it.
They are heavy, 160 Lbs, so they have to ship it on a pallet, so UPS and FedEx won't ship it. It will have to go via an LTL carrier.

Ok so I found a few motors on eBay so far there all going for a thousand or more right not and 160 or more dollars to ship I think I'll try for a used motor close to home. Just not sure where to go yet.
Thanks for all your input!!!!!!!

The guy I bought mine from, for $300, said it needed a new motor. I put new spark plugs in it for $10 and it fired right up. Don't believe everything a PO says, they usually just don't know what they're talkin about.

I am south of you in the Princeton, NJ area but I am also in the riding group with KC2DGQ and Wolfie and we ride up towards you at times. All three of us may be able to help you out at some point so keep in touch and keep asking questions. Also once you get your bike up and running we hope you will join us on some or all of our rides. We also have some plans for the unrideable snow times this winter. Good luck in figuring out if you actually need a new motor and then getting it ready for the road. Let us know exactly what the motor is or sin't doing so maybe we can suggest a possibility to get that one working on the cheap.
