Checking Oil / Checking Coolant

I have asked several people this question, and have received different answers from each. I need clarification.

When checking the oil level gauge, should the bike be on the side stand or the center stand?
When checking the coolant level gauge, should the bike be on the side stand or the center stand?

Obviously, when checking either the oil or coolant level, the bike should be on a level place.

Also goes with checking your brake fluid. Centerstand or level.
