I just got this bike recently and I've been putting as few miles on it and I'm a beginner rider (although I did have a bike in the 60's) It's been long enough ago that I need to start over. I've never ridden with a windshield so that may be part of the problem but if I sit up perfectly straight I can see over it alright. It seems like the top edge line of the windshield is always where I want to look. Hopefully I'll adjust to it but was curious about cutting acrylic.


I haven't found much info on acrylic windshield cutting and thought some of you experienced riders may have the info I need. It's a National Street Shield.


Can acrylic windshields be cut down?

What's the best way to go about it?

Cuttiing down a shield is not that difficult, and it really does not matter what kind of plastic it is made from...
A week or so ago I posted in the Yahoo forum a quick step by step guide to doing this, but rather than retype it all, you can look for it there, or you can go to :

If you haven't ridden the bike a whole lot yet, I'd suggest putting some more miles on it to be sure of where you want to cut the shield.
If you are sure you know where ya want it cut, and are going to do it yourself, use plenty of patience keep all areas you aren't cutting well protected from scrathing and it should go smooth !!

Thanks for the suggestion and I will put more miles on it before I decide.

I managed to drop the windshield down another inch yesterday but that's as far as it will go without blocking the headlight. It seemed a little better but it's hard to tell.I'll just keep riding until I'm sure.

Also on the angle of the windshield . Is it better to have it angled in or should it be more vertical?

That's probably something else you'll have to experiment with. Your height and arm length will determine what your position is while riding and you'll just have to adjust your shield back and forth until you get it where it works best.

Great info folks, thanks lots.

The last adjustment I made was only an inch but it made quite a difference. I'm gonna put the miles on it before I make any cuts.
