I need a new front tire on my scoot before I do much riding this spring.

My bro-in-law offered me the new (maybe 50 miles on it) front tire off his Magna65 if it fits. :)
(His son dumped the bike and bent the frame just after putting the new tire on. :()

Bad news is the front tire is one inch shorter, a 110/90 -18.

My question is this, does anyone know if the Honda Magna wheel takes the same size axle/bushings/spacers etc. as the vn750.

What about the disc brake rotor and calipers? Will they mate up properly?

Also I wonder how the Vulcan will handle with this shorter tire on the front.
I know the speedo will be even less accurate (ie. read even faster than stock).

Is this swap a wise/safe idea, or something I should avoid?
What say you old MC hot rodders?
Has anyone tried something like this before?

Ultimately I will have to drive 30 miles out there and compare the two wheels I guess.

you can do a lot of measuring and figure it out.You have to check axle diameter and if it is not the same,you may still be able to change hearings.the rotor has to be the same distance from the center of the wheel in diamater and spaced as far from the vertical centerline of the wheel.

I seriously doubt it being a direct bolt in.If you have the patience you can make it work,you may have to have new spacers and bearings and other expenses and your fender more than likely will not fit or look right with the different sized wheel.

My guess is it would be more economical to order a new tire.IMHO.But looking at it is free so take a peek and take tape measure with you.

The only thing I'd measure is the diameter of the fork tubes and the distance between them......as the only way I'd use the wheel is if I could use the whole front end- forks, brake caliphers, etc.

This of course only if the bike had duel brakes, and had a mechanical speedo drive that fit.

You'd have to make sure the tubes provide or could provide the same ride height.

Considering all the ifs here.....I'd just buy a new tire like Denny suggested.;)

Not 100% sure, but I believe Slim stated that they were interchangable besides perhaps the brake setup. Showa forks are Showa forks...axles same...tube width should be same.
been thinking of a rim swap soon myself so I could put a fat tire on, but leaning more towards a wider fork setup as well.

vn 750 forks are 38mm.v65 are 41mm.will look into bearing sizes on the neck and get back to you to see if you can swap entire front end.with the 18" wheel,just lower the rear a little to bring the rake back.

don't see the v65 on the list of compatable forks.gonna see if i can find axle diameter.wait a min.Wolfie allready did that.

no the v65 definatly isn't on the list,although the 45 is.

Well, kinda same as comparing the VN and the EN...same axles and wheels, just the tubes are a different diam (VN fatter)...its the inner distance between the lowers which Ol Hoss really needs to know.
And for actual fork swaps, necks can be cut down and re threadded...but example...some have put VN1500 forks on their 750s with just a bearing swap I believe....I think Im gonna go springer anyways, lol...

Thanks for the info and opinions everyone.
I am not sure if the Magna's forks suffered any damage in the spill or not.
I will only do the swap if it is a direct fit with no permanent mods to the bike or forks.
After all this is only supposed to be a way to save a hundred bucks or so for a new tire.
The VN wheel will be reshod and returned to service when the free tire wears out.

I will take some measurements on the Magna wheel next time I go out, or take it off for a trial fit on the Vulcan when the VN wheel comes off for new rubber. :)

But with my luck I will probably get a chance to try out using zip ties to dismount and remount the front tire on the wheel like someone posted here in the past few days.

Axle should be the same...you may need to shim it if youre just doing a wheel swap....Im just really not sure about the brake setup...if its a single disk, more than likely its a larger diam disk too, and you'd also need the caliper.
Put it this way...the Honda wheel fits Harleys with Showa forks....I seen an Angel outta NYC with one on his FX...
You should be able to manage a wheel swap...

Hope you are right Wolfie.
It would be sweet to get a free tire to ride on for a summer or two.
I only put 3-4,000 km on the scoot last year, mostly commuting to work from May 11 to mid October.

I get 6 weeks of holidays this year so I may make a few day trips or overnighters up to the mountains to find some twisty roads to ride. Might be able to wear out that tire in one season if I can ride enough. :)

If you can get the whole front end, do that...if the upper tubes are the same diameter, you can probably slip the whole sheebang right into the VN triple tree. No need messin with the neck or brakes then...38mm btw...

Just looked here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Magna and the tubes are either 37, 39 or 41mm...figures...all BUT, lol...
