I went for a nice long ride today, and pulled into the garage about 10:30 tonight. Had some things I knew needed done. I marbled the hoses, did Wolfies blowback carb fix to try and get the back cylinder to idle right, then used a dry wall screw to pull the plugs and adjusted the air/fuel screws to 2 1/4 turns. While working I noticed that the right side rear cylinder plug boot was a little cracked. I pulled it a little bit to remove it from the plug and it fell to pieces. So now I'm stuck with my bike down. I'm gonna hit auto zone, and the other parts stores in town to try and find the ngk boot. Would anybody here be willing to sell me one and overnight it if I can't find it tomorrow. The stock one or the ngk one would work, I just dread the idea of driving the cage to work this week since it means me and the wife have to ride together. Let me know if you have one, and if you have any stories of breaking **** after the stores are closed lets hear them. :hitanykey

Try NAPA, you might have to use a rubber boot, but they have the tools to make it work until you can get the right boot in... I have built my own motorcycle sparkplug wires from scratch with NAPA's Belden spark plug wire components... talk to the oldest person behind the counter.. these young kids don't know you can make your own custom wires.

I always find I get motivated late at night, early mornings,or on Sundays.
My rational is when there are the least amount of distractions,you can achieve a lot.
I'm thinking of a white board for my supply list.
I also require a Talisman to ward off the thief of 10mm spanners and teaspoons, previously known to steal half nine sixteenth spanners.
Dam that Klepto to hell!

I get a chuckle every time I hear "spanner". We use spanners at work, and when you ask for one this is what you get:


I know its not what you mean but it makes me chuckle anyway.

Maybe you didn't break it and that was the idle problem to begin with.

In a pinch, I've been known to push the stub end of the plug wire onto the plug.

Spots all I know to tell you is Murphy is always on the job. and if it is any comfort ,I was going to take a picture of my bike with the snow as a backdrop yesterday. Seems some moron got off of it with it in neutral on a little bit of a down grade, As said moron was walking around the bike to get ready to take the picture it rolled forward off the side stand and fell over on the highway bar. No biggie, nothing hit the ground hard but as it was falling the windshield came in contact with the nameless moron and cracked across the bottom over to the first bolt hole and popped out forward. I am trying to find a new windshield,but until I find what I want,it has silver furnace tape holing that corner in place,so,you ain't alone. I still rode that pig yesterday for a while.

Hey Mike. I catch a couple of shows on bike and car mechanics/restorers who are always using spanners and fixing the windscreen flippers.makes me chuckle too.:beerchug:

I got it. Had to buy a universal single plug wire kit, but better than waiting days for a terminal. Back cylinder still goes dead at idle, if some seafoam doesnt do it, Im gonna pull the carbs, clean rebuild and rejet and do the earshave now.

Murphy lives on my left shoulder.....

I was working excavating years back and worked with an off the boat Irishman...helluva guy. btw, and worker....he called all wrenches spanners as well.

Johnny'd say ;"Gimme that spanner there will ya Wolf"....Id reply ;"What the fook is a goddamned spanner ????....speak fookin English now, yer on the other side of the pond"....lol....I miss that man....
