howdy!

well i am getting real tired of trying to find the root cause of the charging issue on my vulcan.:hitanykey
i think i will go ahead and purchase a new stator and a new R/R, Kawa has about 21K miles on her, so it wouldn't hurt to change with new stuff :smiley_th
Do you know where to buy a stator and a R/R? I am looking for something reliable, from a trusted "seller"?
Also it would be great to know (part number)what other item i need to get like gasket, o ring...etc

Thanks in advance!

Before you start throwing money at it, are you sure the alternator is producing a charge?

it's now official the R/R is fried and the Stator is working just fine.
I got the charging system checked at the shop. I'm sooo glad that it's not the Stator.

thanks ya'll

Web site had nice fault finding info also and good explanatory article about motorcycle charging systems.
Here are a couple of links to the Electrosport site. The first is a faultfinding tree. http://www.electrosport.com/technical-resources/library/diagnosis/fault-finding-guide.php

This one explains that some of the tests in the service manual were written when ananlog meters were the norm, and will show a bad r/r with a digital meter, when it is actually still good. They recommend a "FLUKE 110" meter. I know Fluke is more expensive than any of my meters, but this article says the 110 is affordable. http://www.electrosport.com/technical-resources/library/diagnosis/pdf/diode-testing-guide.pdf

I hope this helps, and save you some expense too.
