My dad and i are planning a trip monday and i am concerned about the life of my rear tire. The tread is still very much visible. I would guess it to be near minimum. I will get a pic of up afterwork so others can guage the tire.

There are wear indicators in the tread that look like rectangle blocks. When it is flush with them it's time to remove. Going on a trip, estimate milage vs. tread life left before trip and change if needed. Average 5k per rear and 10k per front new.

Also check the tire manufacture date stamped on the sidewall. It is in the form of a 4 digit code where the first two digits indicate the month and the last two the year of manufacture. Rule of thumb for cruisers is to replace the tire it is more than 5 years old, regardless of tread. (2 years for racing bikes and 3 years for street sport bikes)

I had forgotten about the wear indicators. I had only seen them once on another bike. This tire is not to that point yet. If I were to guess, I'd say it is within the minimal tread depth area. Tread is still very much visible.

My trip will only be 150 miles at most. My dad and I are traveling to a popular biker spot in Kansas called Cassoday. With the 100+ temps we have been having lately, I doubt we will be out for long.

Then I'd say.... "Ride it like you stole it!" And enjoy you trip. Hot here too, it was 101 here in South Alabama today, with heat index over 111.

It was pointed out to me a few weeks ago that there are tiny triangles molded into the tire sidewall, close to the tread, every 10 or 12 inches around the circumference.
They can be difficult to spot. The triangle points up to where the wear bar is located in the middle of the tread area of the tire.

I think the front tires wear bar is reached when there is 2mm of tread left.
I believe the rear tire can be run down to 1 mm before the wear bar is reached.
Beware though, that 90% of tire punctures and other tire failures occur during the last 10% of tire life.
Trying to get the last few miles out of the tire may end up being false economy if you have to call a tow truck to get home. :(

i changed mine when it started to hydrolplane in the rain . it was a dunlop 404 i got one season out of the set . the center wore down way to fast , 8K miles maybe
