So I've made the decision to remove my carbs and clean them. Seat and gas tank are off, air hoses are off and boots are off. What's left? I don't want to break the thing but can't see what's holding it on. Would like to get this done today, any input appreciated.

More importantly, how do I disassemble the throttle from the carb? I've read a few threads but do not understand what to do. I'm becoming quickly frustrated.

I'm looking at what I think is the point where the throttle cable enters the carb. But the screw is pointing straight down. How can I possibly access that?

I have the original manual that came with the bike, and it describes removing the throttle cable but it doesn't show pictures and I don't even know where to start. The link you posted is loading, though, so I'll keep you guys updated.

ADDED:

This is the part I'm having trouble with:

"Remove the choke cable lower end as follows;
- Loosen the locknut at the cable upper end and turn in the adjuster nut fully to give tte cable plenty of play.
- Slip the outer cable out of the cable bracket at the front carburetor.
- Slip the inner cable tip from the plunger level at the rear carburetor, and pull off the cable."

Does anyone have pictures of this step? There are no pictures in the manual.

if you have the choke cable off the carb just leave the throttle cables on untill you have the carbs off...put them back on before you put the carbs back in.. makes it easier.

I have all the hoses off. I've read everything in all the manuals and looked at all the parts but I still don't know what the next step is. Choke or throttle, I haven't done either, I don't think.

I just finished R&R'g the choke cable. I was looking for pics of this 2. No one has em. Here's how and where to look to remove and eventually replace the choke cable:
On the left handle grip underneath you'll see a chrome adjuster. Loosen the 6mm locknut and screw the adjuster in as far as it will go to give you slack at the carbs.
With the tank off, look at the left side carb. At the left, towards the top of that carb, you'll see the enricher plunger for that carb. Slightly above and behind you'll see a triangular piece that holds the bottom end of the choke cable. Pull on the metal part of the cable and slide the cable down. There's a slot for the cable to drop out or in for removal/installation.
While looking at the left side carb, now look to the right of the petcock and over at the backside of the right carb. You'll see where the choke cable attaches to the other side.
Now re-position yourself on the rt side of the bike. Looking at the right carb look at the rear of it and you'll again see the enricher plunger and the cable connection. It has a slot system for removal/replacement also.
Now all this being said, I'm sure you'll now agree WHY no one has any pics. It's pretty near impossible(imho) to get a clear picture to post.
Hope this helps?

To my knowledge, I wasn't able to find clear instructions ANYWHERE. Whether in ANY of the manuals or even in the "Verses" on exactly HOW to R&R the choke cable. If I missed, mybad? If not, MODS you may want to stcky this? Just sayin :smiley_th

I want to thank everyone for their replies, however, I feel this is getting above my skill level and I think I'm going to have my mechanic look at it. He quoted $150/carb + labor. Since I already have the bike apart, maybe he can work with me on the price. Thanks to everyone for their replies but without a step by step picture detailed procedure I'm not comfortable winging it on a mint condition bike.
