I say let the old guy have his dreams, (speaking from the perspective of an old guy). If he wants to bluff and bluster about how fast his bike is let him. If he insists on racing be charitable. Remember he's your wife's father and some day when your kid grows up and marries you might be in his place.

Just my 2 cents.

you must remember, HE was the one who opened his mouth, I just want to shut it for him. but don't get me wrong, this is all in good fun. as for some day being in his place?.....yes, when my kid grows and marries, I'll know when to keep my mouth shut!
also he's not the first person to say something about my "little" vn750. one of my buddies (who has a yamaha virago 920) kept telling me the vn750 wasn't big enough and how he was going to blow me away on his 920. well one day I let him take the vn750 out for a ride (with his wife on the back) thats all it took. he doesn't say anything more about my "little vn750" being too little or how he's going to blow me away on his 920!

Got a friend looking for a bike now. He has to have an 1100 or bigger. Almost had him talked into a 1600 Vulcan, but he's still looking.

Mostly going to be used as a commuter bike, his argument is he's on the highway more, and needs the bigger bike.

His route will have him in a lot more congested traffic than mine. That's exactly when I'd want something light and maneuverable.

Either way, just waiting to take my "little" bike for a ride with him. I think he'll be a little bit surprised.

My wife has a VN750, which of course means I've ridden it. I was looking for a commuter a couple years ago and looked at the 800 Suzi. Was not impressed; it felt wooden, with poor brakes. Too much bike for the engine I thought. The 750, as you all know, will scoot right out and outrun many bigger bikes if you twist it up. Much better package, in my opinion.

This is a quote from Motorcycle Cruiser. "The Vulcan 750 has quite a bit to offer when you throw a leg over it. Power is good; only the Suzuki 800 outruns it in its class". Article
Yes, and that is the S50 , not the C50....and about what I expected with a bike that weighs less than the Vulcan. The Vulcan has more to offer however and it's not like the S50 blows it away..just edges it out performance wise.

I do not think I have seen anyone around here with a S50...guessing not that popular of a model for some reason.

I had the opportunity to buy either the Intruder 800cc or the Vulcan 750... after doing some research I went for the VN750 because:

- No need to adjust valves
- More HP
- DOHC
- Looks more robust
- It can cruise and fly by when needed

Personally, i have never been much of a motorcycle racer. Mostly because I like my head intact. Having said that however, my father owns a suzuki intruder 1500 and i like them both

I think ive been turned. I like the simplicity of my air cooled sportster. havin' busted plenty a knuckle on my VN. I miss tne hell out of the comfort of the VN. I've commuted everyday with both and i have to say that in highway rush hour traffic, that 1200ccs brings with it a whole lot more confidence. One day ill try the 883 to see what the difference is.

It's about the driver too. If you are afraid of rpms and your dad is not, you will lose.

first, Merc, you do realize that I started this thread with my that first post 6 years ago! lol with that being said, not to worry, that "race" never happened and never will. that was then and this is now. a few things have changed since then and not for the better I might add. :(

2nd, I am not afraid of RPMs,.......I ride a VN750! if I was afraid of RPMs, I'd be riding a Harley. lol

I did not realize the timing on the thread. I want to be a part of the forum, but I don't have the time to study every post in the thread.

I know people with 750's that bog them so rpms have nothing to do with the type of bike you ride. But I'm glad you like rpms. So do jap engines.
