Back on August 1st 2011, I fell from the back of my truck at work. The tail end was 4 feet off the ground, and I fell backwards landing on the back right side of my head.
Between the ruptured disc pressing against my spinal cord, and the now almost constant case of vertigo, it pretty much put an end to my 40+ years of riding.
Our youngest rides; says I gave him the bug. His dream was to do a trip to Yosemite with me.
So, he had this 2005 Vulcan 750 with a bad stator (I've come to understand that this is pretty much the norm with this machine) We've decided to go with the Tuxedo Mod, as it's faster and will let us move on to the main event.
We're building a reverse trike, using the 750 as the donor bike. We're taking the frame from a Honda TRX450R, cutting off almost half of the frame, and mating it to the Vulcan (Just like Spock, it's a half breed.)
Why I'm here is I have found that make/model focused forums are the best place to get ideas and advice.
I've owned two Honda 500 GLI Silverwings, and there's a forum dedicated to them. Those guys helped me all during the resto....
I'm Da Bear on Adventure Rider, another great forum, if you're not on it you might want take a look.
So, Issues I see coming up:
The Tuxedo Mod. I've watched the video so many times I quite literally have had dreams of it going south on me in numerous ways. Any advice on it?
Radiator. I'm going to have to move it up front about a foot or so. Any advice on mounting it on the TRX frame?
Tires. Since I'm probably going with 17 x 7 rims with an adapter plate on the TRX hubs, I'll have a flat profile tire on the front, and a more rounded one on the back. Is there a more squared off tire that will fit this rim?
Has anyone even attempted what were doing?
Yeah, I know we're nuts for trying this, but damn man, it means I'll be able to RIDE again!
A lot of the guys over on ADV are crowd funding this. So I want to make sure I get it right the first time.....

If you search darkside rear tire here in the forum, you should find the sizes of car tire that work with the swingarm.

I'll post pics when the actual build starts. Right now we're sweating that damned stator. My kid is working on his masters at PSU, hosting three Last Call Trivia nights at three different bars here in Portland (His mom and I along with four others are a team known as Bad Dad Jokes) so time over here to help with the bike is hard to come by.
That TRX frame is due here today via UPS. The A arms got here last week, and the hubs will be here next week.
As I see it, after the stator, it should go something like this:
Pull the radiator, and associated parts.
Cut the forks, just below the triple tree, and cap them for looks.
Weld the TRX frame to the Vulcan, while matching the steering shaft to the center of the triple tree. I'm thinking it might be easier to put in a universal joint just below the tree.
Need to find a 4 x 144 to 4 x 100 adapter, failing that, some 17 x 7 quad wheels with a 4 x 144 pattern.
Relocate the radiator up front. I have a bad feeling about that...
Make a cowl to cover the TRX frame and radiator fittings.
I've done custom wood working as a hobby for 53 years (started when I was 8) so the front end cowl will likely be something to see...

I'm not seeing the vision... The TRX already has a radiator and fan, and steering, why not keep the whole front end as TRX, weld the frames together behind the steering column, and hook up coolant hoses between the 750 engine and trx radiator?
Where were you thinking of chopping?

165/15 Offa VW for rear tire. Personally I'd pull the motor to do the tuxedo mod....
