Last summer I had a squealing sound that was driving me nuts. It would only happen occasionally and then started happening more frequently. I tried for months to figure out what was making the noise.

Early this spring I figured it out. Ridding home the squealing started I pushed on and tugged on everything I could reach while riding. I ggrabed the tank up by the handle bars and pulled up. Squealing stopped. Turned out the metal collars on the front tank mounts were rubbing against the front mounts of the fuel tank.

I assumed the rubber dampeners had compressed over time and were not keeping the metal parts separated. I ordered new dampeners and they look just like the old ones. If I tighten down on the mounting bolts I get metal to metal contact.

I fixed it by adding another rubber grommet on the metal collar. The grommet kind of squishes out and keeps the metal separated. You can see a little bit of the pink grommet sticking in the attached photo.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for the info about the tank. This may help others with the same noise.
