Hey guys,

I'm looking to start the search on some bags for this upcoming riding season,
I want to have a tank bag on the big because I ride it both to commute and on cruises. I'm also looking to install some saddlebags while I have the bike taken apart for a bunch of 24k mile maintenance.
I plan on having my Gf ride with me as well, so making sure bags aren't in the way is important, along with several other conditions means that a passanger seat bag isn't an option.

Suggestions on the luggage options?

Other considerations:
I have a rack behind the sissy bar with a "5 pound" Limit on it, kinda useless if that's actually the max.

Thanks!

the rack can support a lot more than just five LBS, members on here have been known to stand on it while changing light bulbs and reaching items on the top shelves in their garages.

Unless both you and the g are both small the VN750 isn't the best 2-up bike out there. with that being said, check out the stickies in the equipment section. Lots of information here for bags, supports, and any thing else you might wonder about.

I have a medium sized magnetic tank bag I've used on several bikes with great success. Many companies make them, mines a Fieldsheer, but Tourmaster, and Chase Harper make nice ones too.

I've traveled two up with 65 pounds of crap lashed to that rear rack with no problems (I'm the one that reported that I stood on the thing to change a light bulb) the 5 lb limit is just a liability clause.

One option I'd go with now is to install a tailcase on that rack. I got spoiled by hard luggage with locks.....

x2 ! Go with a tailcase on the rack.
Tank Bags are great imo.

Thanks for the imput!

I did a search for tank bags and it didn't turn up much at all, so I thought I'd post a thread to get an idea of brands, products and the such, as well as other peoples ideas.

As for fitting two people on it, I'm 6 foot 6 but not to big around the belly, and the GF is a tiny little thing at 130 5 foot 5, so we fit pretty well on it ;)

I think I might go for the hard shell trunk/tail case, that looks like it can fit a lotta stuff in exchange for the price on it.

I have a pack that slips over my sissy bar. I found it at Walmart for $25. For more money you can find others with more capacity and durability, but so far this works for me. Between it and my saddlebags my wife and I can pack enough for a 1 or 2 night trip. I find the tank bag awkward because the tank is at such a steep angle.

Since I carry a lot for my work including 40 lb steel plates and 5 lb bearings I have tank, tail, and saddle bags. The tank bag is the best, stop at a light and a want a sip of coke, tank bag, Tums, little flashlight, glasses wipes? The tank bag is the go to bag. But be careful, the magnets can grab stuff like sand and screws and damage your paint. Still worth it to me.

Thanks!

Any suggestion on particular styles or brands of tank bags? any brands to stay away from? I'm completely new to the market.

I'm for sure looking to pick up a tank bag and tail case after the mech work on my bike is done.
