I'm not worried about it. This type of proposed legislation usually pertains to new vehicle manufacturing standards and, further, most of the proposals I've read distinguish between classes of vehicles.

I don't think any administration would be stupid enough to implement anything that would actually take people's vehicles away from them. And they don't really have to. Vehicles actually phase out pretty quickly. Many of the cars on the dealers lots today will be junk in 15 years.

Heheheheh...so did I.

Note that what dirtrack650 posted applies to new production. Various entities have been trying for years to get older vehicles outlawed and headed to the scrapyards. Ain't happened yet, and I don't forsee that changing anytime soon.

YMMV

The car makers support the legislation. Shock! Who would think that the industry who stands to gain the most (a free ticket to bump the price by $1k or more!) would support such a measure. I'm not a big conspiracy theorist, but I'd bet good money they have the technical knowledge and production ability to meet those standards now.

Yeah, but have you noticed that 2-smokes are being phased out... lawnmowers, boat motors... quite alot are 4 stroke any more.

And Sloppyburpfest, quite awhile ago I thought I posted about a guy on another forum I frequent who did EFI on his dirtbike (but can't find it now ) but never heard how well it worked out.
And I believe Hizzo was looking into it also, but again, never heard how that went.

Originally I held off on buying a VN750 for a few years in the hopes that Kawasaki would add EFI to it... Instead they just discontinued it in 2007 and went with the bigger 800s (yuck). So that's how I wound up with 2006, the last model year they made.

Last weekend I got so bitterly annoyed at my gas powered lawn mower that and I ran over to Home Despot and picked up a nice all electric battery powered one. Charged it for 15 hours and afterwards it did a fantastic job on the lawn. Clean, quiet, no more gas or exhaust fumes, friendlier to the environment... If they ever make a sudo VN750 electric version I'll probably take a pass though.

I first read the emissions posts this morning on BBC. This evening, it's all over the news raising the MPG and cutting CO2 emissions by 2016 including mandatory vehicle testing nation wide. That rules out my bike, I'll be parting it out rather than restoring it to original specs.

It's against EPA federal law to change your intake or exhaust as it is now - if it's enforced in your location.

Will older vehicles be grandfathered in? doubt it.

Hail overlord Obama. Remember his mantra: CHANGE
