Thought I'd share my cheap bags. Picked up two $5 backpacks at walmart's back to school sale and zip tied the little loop on top to the frame rail, laced the shoulder straps together under the seatand tied off the rest of the straps to keep them out of the wheel. Amazing how the shocks keep them out of danger. I've had them on almost as long as I've had the bike without problems, except the wife thought I should have gotten the cute "Hello Kitty" ones. I can carry two gallons of milk and still have room for a light jacket and extra shirt.

very nice and great price. I've looked at the WalMart carry on bag for $19.95 that's about the same size as leather bags but with more space including the outside zipper pockets.

Here's a pic of me and my 77 GS750 Suzuki with carry on shoulder bags after a week long camping trip around Mt. Raineer Wa. Pic is 26 years old.

What do you think about these bags

I am looking for some inexpensive travel bags and found these on ebay. Would someone be kind enough to look at them on ebay and give me your valued input?

I've looked at those too, but there were too many for me to make it worth itin my eyes as I don't have the luggage rack or the windshield at the time. And I spent way less on mine (true cheapskate at heart) Other than that it looks to be a decent deal on the surface, I would rather hold at least one in my hand to be positive.

Just FYI "Diamond plate" = Scrap leather pieces sewed together. We've all seen the jackets with 100 pieces of leather made into a solid panel. Usually things made of that type of leather aren't made all that well (low grade leather plus the fact that there's a bunch of seams... seams can fail...)

Also keep in mind that with most saddlebags turn signal relocation will be necessary.

Then again... I'm partial to my ammo can saddlebags...

I have 3 sets of bags in my garage. After trying several here are some tips on bags.
1. Boxtops- they do a better job of sealing out rain and dirt.
2. Leather vs synthetic- real leather looks good however if you buy cheap leather don't expect them to look good for a long time as rain will cause the leather to pimple out. Good synthetic bags will last for years and still look good if you use something like armorall on them.
3. Cheap bags without internal reinforcement will quickly lose thier shape.
4. Buy the biggest bag that will fit your bike.
5. Get bags that zip or snap off the mount that way you will be able to remove them easily when you want the bagless look.
6. Hard bags are good but almost always have to remain on the bike.
7. Don't expect your bag to be perfect- we always need to store 1 more thing. be realistic in your expectations.
8. If you don't want to spend a lot on good bags a cheap backpack and bungi cord will work in a pinch. Creativity has always been in the bikers creed when it comes to carrying things on your bike.

Yeah, ya got to watch out for some of that patchwork stuff.
Especially on eBay, the sellers do a good job of hiding the patchwork in not so good pictures.

I bought this very same set...have two complaints. the back pack is smaller than what I anticipated, and the tool pouch strap goes the length of the bag instead of the height I wanted the tool pouch to hang on the right swing arm.

Over all though I use them every day, and they hold plenty. look really good on the bike as well. Look for pics in my galleries tomorrow afternoon.
