Here's a video for the cruiser crowd. For those that are not familiar, rockthegear.org was started by the "Road Rash Chick" that met the pavement at a high rate of speed with no gear. Now she's advocating ATGATT and uses herself as an example. But this video is not her...

A video I wish more riders paid attention to.

My only critical comment is in one scene, talking about wearing the right gear, it shows a a guys nicely armored jacket, and his armored gloves, but he is wearing regular blue jeans.

Knee and upper leg injuries make up a significant percentage of non-lethal accidents.

You can not be considered ATGATT unless you add proper riding pants to the list, and this does not mean blue jeans.

People look at me kinda funny when I ride my cruiser while wearing my leather pants, cause they have pucks, big honking knee padding and a race cut (read - pre-curved legs). Personally, I could give a s**t what anyone else thinks - I know I'm safe. Or safer. The riding jeans I have are pretty stealth - you can barely tell that the knees have armor, and the leather and kevlar/aramid reinforcing is on the inside so it's not even visible. Comfy enough to wear at work all day.

Sounds like they just did not fit you properly. A good set of "custom fitted" leathers will feel like a second layer of skin and not be bothersome in anyway.

But, yeah, I was not talking about full leaters, but just leather pants or the armored Cordura type riding pants. Chaps are for those that think the skin on their ass won't hurt when it is shaved off by concrete. (Trust me, the one place you really do not want to lose any skin is off your butt)

Although they sell well, those "Kevlar" jeans are really not worth the money. They usualy have no armor, and what Kevlar they do use is in very specific parts of the pants. (knees, hips and ass) and does not cover the entire leg or the ever important crotch.

I have a pair of leather pants I had made for me around 30 years ago, they still look great..even after a few get-offs. The sad part is as of this year, they no longer fit me, so looks like I am in the market again for some. I do own a pair of Fieldsheer Titanium Air Mesh pants...which is as close as anyone can come to feeling like they are naked in hot weather ...without risking protection.
I highly reccomend Bates Leather for custom made leather pants or jackets:

(They made the leathers Arnold wore in the Terminator movies)

I wear the non-leather sport type gear, Gortex with knee liner's etc, i think they were $300.00 or so, same for the coat, wear it even when it's hot out, are those any good in a concrete fight??
Is leather better all year round??
