I have to replace my front fork seals and dust covers but I am stuck. What seemed like it would be fairly easy now looks more difficult. My problem is getting the forks off of the bike but it doesn't look like I can raise the bike enough to do it, even with the front tire removed. I thought the main piece holding them in place was a 2 piece and that I could just remove the front half and then slide the forks the 2" out of the top part and bingo but that piece is not 2 a piece. Any suggestions or ideas on how to do this without have a proper garage setting to work out of?

The way the service manual shows lifting the front end is done with pretty simple tools
(providing you have a similiar car jack and piece of wood for between the bike frame & jack)

If that doesn't get the bike high enough, place pieces of 2X4 under the center stand once lifted as high as you can get it, lower the bike onto the 2X4's, place more 2X4's under the jack and lift again.

Take care when lifting that the bike is stable at all times. It's usually best to have another person helping to steady the bike.

I think that you are talking about the forks not sliding out of the clamps. I had to use a big screwdriver to pry apart the clamp (upper and lower) enougth for the forks to slide out. If this is what you are asking about. The hardest part that I had when I did mine was getting the clip back on the top. Had to put the forks back onto the bike to get the clips back on.
