I am working on lubing the splines on my bike. Just wondering if I should do anything with the rear shock absorbers while they are off. I have been told that you should change the oil out in them every so often. Just wondering if this is true. If so what are the steps on doing that? Thanks

I wasn't aware that the rear shock oil could even be changed.

There's a drain on the stock ones I think....you'd need to refill thru there or thru the air valve I guess (remove spring, pump em out)....but honestly, unless it has 50k on it from a 300lb rider, shouldnt need to.....easier to just get new/used shocks....if yours are leaking, you need to anyway...Harley Sportster shocks will work with a bushing swap, and shocks of EN 454/500s are bolt ons...thats what Im runnin now...no air, but 5 way adjustible like stock....

Shock Oil Refill as presented by Roach.

I'd be interested in figuring out how to disassemble the shocks for a thorough cleaning and getting rid of the rust so that I can repaint them, possible two toned.
