No it won’t reset the switch, Kawasaki had that function on the early few years of the run but they were problematic and discontinued. This will just stop you from being that annoying motorist who tells people “I’m turning!” but never actually turns, leaving those following to just remain perturbed.

I'm sort of confused... Won't my turn switch still be stuck in the position I left it? I guess I was thinking that this was something that replaced the entire left hand control assembly. That's my fault for being unaware of the difference.

I guess what I'm saying is: This device doesn't actually disengage the switch I pushed with my thumb, does it?

If you left the signal on, the flasher will cancel it, then you'll have to flip the signal off then back on to activate it.

Sorry for the late reply, but yes the turn signal can be set to timeout. It was one of those things I would forget about when riding with a group and needed a self cancelling relay.

It wouldn't be much hassle, as soon as you try to use the turn signal again you'll see that you need to flip the switch off then right back on. If you're using the opposite signal it would still be seamless, just a longer throw of the switch. If the time delay is a problem then you're not signaling early enough.

Never had the feature but I would guess the factory setup works the same way. A self canceling switch would be fairly complex for a handlebar mount.

The thing is, I'm very good about turning the switch of when I'm finished with a turn. My riding instructor taught us things that ended up becoming second nature. Kind of like the application of front and rear brake at the same time. My thumb stays on the switch unless I'm no longer using it. I kind of thought this was something that would "actuate" the switch for me, if that makes sense? Like make the turn and then it resets the switch. Like the ones you find on late model HD's. The entire switching mechanism is electronic. I was convinced that's what this thing was until I saw it and it was explained to me.

I do like the HD switch setup and how it looks, so I may make the conversion next spring.

Yeah, that's what I'd like to have. The electronic ones on HD's work like that, I guess?

There’s also a “beeper” I’ve seen that makes noise when the signal is blinking (like a car) and auxiliary lights that try to capture your attention your blinker is still on.
Someone once posted about putting a stick on convex lens over the blinker indicator on the dash to make it more noticeable.

My ultimate dream thing would be a bluetoothed helmet with a full HUD that shows everything. The gear you're in, the speedo and tach, oil and water temps, a digital rearview mirror, turn signal indicators, old-fart warnings (it would detect seniors in baseball caps driving town cars at 35mph on the highway)

You said the engine has gone bad, have you torn the engine down enough to determine what's actually gone bad within? I may or may not be in the market soon for a right side crank case, not the cover but the engine half itself. Would be more than willing to take the whole engine if you haven't already torn it down, so I can tear it down myself, and can gladly help you sell the remaining bits and peices that may be in good shape
