Motorcyclesuperstore sent me a tire with a date code of 2913 that's almost three years old already! Am I nuts for thinking that's not appropriate to sell or is it common? Would you use a NOS tire that's 3 year into shelf life?

I went a little cheap with the shinko tourmasters knowing the wear reputation.. The front has quite a bit of flashing on lettering etc., compared to the rear tire. Not super impressed.

You should be ok with the rear, from memory I think 5 years storage is the cut off point.

The rear was only 8 months old, its the front that is 3 years.

Does that make a difference?

The last time I ordered tires online (Metzler ME 880s) I called and had the rep. physically go out to the warehouse and read me the tire manufacture birthday dates on the tires that I would be receiving. They were six (rear) months and nine (front) months old. For me, less than a year old is acceptable, since I am am an old Yankee and frugal (i.e., want to maximize my investment or maybe just cheap).

You have about 2 years usable life in your front tire (before dry rot sets in). If you went cheap, then you may be good with that.

Tried to call and do an exhange/return but mc superstore just said "because we have multiple warehouses we cant check or guarantee anymore" said they used to be able to check ..and a line about this being their busiest day of the year...

Not impressed.

Guess i am using it but not recommend mc superstore to people.

Do they still have their guarantee in writing on their webpage?if so they are legally required to fulfill their guarantee

Interesting thread. I had not given this any thought before about age of tires when I first get it. I'm looking to change mine out once I get enough extra cash put away to cover the tires, installation, and a spline lube. This thread started me thinking. Now my question about this: "Storage time", does this eat into "on-bike usage time"? I'll probably never put enough mileage on tires so as to wear them out. So my main replacement criteria will almost assuredly be time based. (The original tires I have on it now are waaaaaaay past replacement time.)

Yes as the rubber ages as they are stored just like if they're on the bike.they do have a protective coating(THIS IS WHY YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE CAREFULL THE FIRST 100 OR SO MILES UNTIL THE COATING WEARS OFF,AS IT EFFECTS THE TIRES ABILITY TO GRIP.KIND OF LIKE IF YOU SPRAYED ARMOUR-ALL ON THE TREAD)but that still doesn't mean much

They should discount based on how old the tire has been sitting in the warehouse!

Try jakewilson.com or rockymountainatvmc.com (same company, warehouse, ordering, etc.). Great service and great price, when on sale. They also have coupons, like free shipping, that can be found on coupon sites like retailemenot.com. Jakewilson.com is the site that I had read me the tire manufacture birthday codes before buying. Also, I could not find a site online that had a better deal. So, win-win....for me!
