I see many people have different experiences with oils for this bike. I don't want to spend a ton on the oil but I want an oil that will provide excellent lubrication. Some say go with the regular 10W-40, and some say go with the thickest oil you can go for, should I go with the 10W-40 (any oil brand like Castrol, Shell) or a 20W-50 (specifically Valvoline VR1 Racing SAE Motorcycle oil. The current oil in it has literally 0 miles on it. People say yam lube is terrible, but I am not sure. The bike ran fine, I never drove the bike with that oil just revved and idled it. The petcock was leaking which made the oil and gas mix. Too much gas and fuel was in there so of course it spitted out the air intakes, As soon as it did I shut the bike off and didn't start it again. Im thinking Valvoline but I want whats the best or good for this bike. Thank you!!

Thank you so much Spock... You've been there since day 1, the first post I made, and you answered. This bike has come a far way from now 24 in a half years later. Bike just sat and sat. One day I decided to start working this bike. Man it was difficult and fun. Im still in the process of making it looking all nice again and 100% mechanically working. I hope all goes well. Ill go ahead and order the 15W-40 Rotella T-4. Thanks again Spock, your the best!

Just looked at the picture you sent. Turns out it is Diesel oil.. If that's the right one ill order it. Never heard of diesel oil going in a bike but hey I've seen people run their engines on vodka for experiments lol... Ill order it tomorrow! Its only about $15.34 on walmart not including tax Ill include a picture because adding links is making me look like a scammer lol

Hey you're welcome, and thanks for the feedback.

That's the right oil, it's rated for diesel so it exceeds specs for gas engines.

I use it in everything, bikes, cars, ATVs, tractors, lawnmowers. It looks so beautiful when you're pouring it in. I just feel like getting a spoon. 😁

Just don't use the whole jug or it will be overfull again.

lol.. Yep once the oil and gas mixed the bike just couldn't take it and used anyway to get that oil/gas out of the engine before catastrophic failure. I will let my dad do the oil change but ill watch it lol. Thanks for the help Spock. You are one of the most important people that helped get this bike running. Thanks for that!

Yep, I saw your replies in other oil threads. I saw you guys talking about oil and which is better, so I created this to see an argument happen lol. Our vulcan has 9k miles.. How many miles does your vulcan have everyone? Also what kind of oil do you guys prefer? I can find the Rotella oil cheap for $15 on walmart. Only problem is that I have to pick it up.. No walmart is close to me, only 20 mils away but that's about an hour trip.

I had to switch to Mobil 1 synthetic for two vehicles on the last oil change, couldn't find Rotella in the stores and didn't want to wait on shipping.

But I already had some Rotella stocked up for the other machines. I'm pretty sure it's back on the shelves now, I'm just not using any oil between oil changes.

Rotella is made by Royal Dutch Shell and I'm fairly certain it all comes out of Canada. There was some supply chain problems last year.

My dads been using mobile 1 in his grand caravan for many years... The things only got 58k miles and its from 2007. I firmly believe our Grand Caravan is the lowest milage in NY

Nope, not sure why... I see the exact same thing for $34 that can be shipped. Not sure if I should just spend the 34 or drive the 20 mins there and back
I'd just pick it up next time I needed groceries.

I’m surprised, the BJ’s in Philly has an entire auto center. They’re just not my first choice for car and bike needs because to drive there I’d pass Advanced, Autozone, and Pep boys. Plus it’s a mad house, always crowded.

Rotella is good oil. The dino or blends. The 5-40 synthetic made my trans and clutch clunky in my Hondas and increased clutch chatter in my VN.

After watching way too many oil chemists on YouTube discuss synthetic oils in older (high mileage) engines, I'm happy using 20-50 MC oil in all my bikes since they're all old and high mileage 🙄

Quicksilver is my #1 choice, but it's gotten pricey so I'm happy with Valvoline or Walmart MC oils.

It's $15 if you get it shipped to the store, or they'll ship it to you for an additional $19. 19+15=34. Shipping seems high for the weight, but it's HAZMAT.
