Newbie here with a question.. i have a 97 Valcun 750. First bike and i love it! Recently i discovered oil sludge in the coolant reservoir flushed the radiator and it returned . (Bike was sitting for a few years when I picked it up) i was considering it was a head gasket but it doesnt seem to be collant in the oil.. just oil in the coolant. Any thoughts ?

Hey friend,

Feel free to do an intro post in the welcome section and let us know about yourself.

As for your problem, I wouldn't worry. I had some nasty **** in my res tank too (89) and it doesn't mean there is a leak. Throw some carb cleaner or something in the tank with some nuts or something small and abrasive, and give it some good shakes to get it out. Take it out for a few weeks once its clean and see if it fould up again before worrying too much

My bike had oil in the coolant bottle from the previous owner thinking it was an oil tank.

It's possible to have a blown gasket leak oil only into the coolant, but it's not real common. The break could be in a pressurized oil passage where the oil pressure is greater than the coolant pressure. Oil press. around 50-60psi, coolant press. around 12-15psi. Could even be a base gasket, but I would need to see exactly where all the coolant and oil passages are.

Check the spark plugs to see if they look steam cleaned. (leaking head gasket burning coolant)

I retired a trusty Honda Accord after putting a head gasket and top-end seals on it. It was getting oil into the coolant only and I eventually found out Honda has had a problem with porous engine blocks from 1999-2005, and were quietly doing engine replacements.
