I have two noises that have been bothering me and trying to diagnose:

1) Front Brakes- when pressing the front brake i hear this HISSING SOUND. I have not done anything on the brakes since i got it last September. Is this the sign that I need new pads?

2) I hear a RINGING SOUND(high pitch) from the rear left side(driveshaft) when riding. It sounds like something metal is loose and hitting something else metal, almost like a bell. Now this sound really bothers be! I have not looked at the splines yet and really hope this is not them disintegrating! By the way i dont have any 2x4's laying around to raise the bike for the spline job. What else can i use?

Any ideas?

The hissing sound may be that you picked up some sand between the pads and the disk. Check the disk for scratch marks. Don't know what to tell you about the ringing sound except keep paying attention and maybe it will focus in on where it's coming from.

Have a squeek myself and after attacking the front brakes, and greasing the hell out of my speedo cable to no avail, I think I zeroed in on the problem. My fuel tank is probably mounted to the frame with some rubber bushings and I think that's it. At the next opportunity I will charge with WD 40 and see if that cures it.

Not sure about the 2X4s. You do know that you have a center stand on this bike. Lots of luck.

I forgot to mention something about the Ringing sound- it stops when i pull the clutch in.:doh:

So i should attack the brakes with some cleaner?

I was looking at the Fergy's write-up where he used a 2x4 under the center stand to raise it higher.

It looked to me like he did that to make it easier to get the wheel off-same thing with the license plate.

The Clymer's manual (FWIW) simply says put it on the center stand, and proceed with wheel removal.

Obviously, anything you can stand it up on, to raise the rear higher, will aid in the removal of the wheel.

I haven't experienced any of this myself yet, but I'm about too in a couple days.....

I do like easier! You are right the Clymer does not mention the 2x4:), but they do not have this site to give them the idea.:beerchug:

You can use two old phone books..just make sure to wrap them with tape so they don't "slide"

The ringing might be bad gas (pinging) sounds like marbles in a metal can?
But if you are sure it is the left rear...couldn't hurt to do the splines........

The Clymer's also says you have to remove the exhaust pipes. With Fergy's method, you just have to loosen them. I'll take the phone book/2x4 boost to pulling the exhaust system any day.

For the pinging sound, check how close the heat shield is to the center stand peddle, I think I had that same problem years ago. I just adjusted the shield for more clearance.
