hi all been cruising around on my VN and loving it. :rockon:

made myself a new ignition key See pics.





Then this happened, the top hose split i'm putting it down to the fact it's probably the original hose fitted in 1985:doh:

The key on my 93 Vulcan was twisted quite a bit when I bought the bike used in 2003. Then this year I took her out after 4 years of storage and after a few hundred miles that key was starting to annoy me. Once, the ignition shut off -- lights went off, speedometer went to zero -- because the key wouldn't sit tight in the ON position or whatever but the engine still ran. Sometimes, it was a pain going from OFF to ON. Anyway, I straightened the key with a hammer and now, no issues :smiley_th

One of my fuel hoses ruptured a couple of months ago. Luckily I was just starting to leave the house when this happened. The tear was close to the petcock so I just trimmed that part out and then took a trip out to Canada and back (to Boston). No issues. But when I visited my folks this past weekend -- that's where I park my bike since I live in downtown Boston -- my Dad said he had noticed a fuel leak near that hose again and put the bike on the center stand. So now I have got to put a new hose in.

Cool looking key but....given the problematic ignition switch on the 750, I'd be a little cautious about adding any more weight to the key.

That `s a cool looking key head gp. I was thinking about making something like that with a clock in place of the skull. Then keeping it in the fuel cap lock while riding, in case the phantom out of fuel syndrome strikes.

Just a couple of observations here, getgopi1. When I got my bike, it only had one key too. It took me about 2 hours after buying the bike to complete getting insurance and a licence plate on it. The very next thing I did was go get 2 extra keys for the bike. I always carry 2 keys for whatever I`m driving or riding. The 3rd is a spare kept at home in a toolbox drawer.

I suggest you get at least one more key cut, before your one and only breaks off or gets lost. Use the new key for daily use, and hold the old one that was twisted and straightened, in reserve as a spare.

Regarding the ruptured fuel line, I suppose there are a few of us who should be taking a good look at our own bikes and changing all the fuel lines more often. I think Jace Bror posted a pic some time ago of a bike of his sitting on the side of the road fully engulfed in flames. He had bought it only about a week earlier, and the fuel lines were old, brittle and leaky and ended up burning the bike down.
