Hi, My friend dropped her 2004 VN750 on the right side. When we got it picked up it no longer had oil pressure. She was not moving, She just lost her balance and it tipped over. No visible damage at all. Does anyone have any ideas about what may have happened? One thing we do know is that it's not just an indication problem as the engine now rattles like it has a lot of lifter noise.

Sounds like the oil pump lost its prime. Pull the spark plug wires off so the bike won't start, loosen the oil filter and crank it over with the starter until oil comes out. It makes a bit of a mess but should do the trick.

Ok, So I have pulled the oil filter and the oil screen and there is metal chunks large enouph to read part numbers on..... all most. This engine is shot and will cost more to repair than it is worth. Now we need to know what other years of engines will fit this frame without modification. Any info will be appreciated. We have found a 1986 engine with 20,000 miles on it. Will this fit?

One nice thing about the VN700 / VN750 is that all years engines fit. You can put a VN700 engine in a VN750 frame and vice versa. Yes the engine will fit. I would suggest going over the replacement engine and check out the balancer and shifter placement before it is put in. these are two areas that would require a engine pull or close.
I must say, the damage from a standing drop seems unusual and I suspect something else was going on before the drop.
Oh yeah, especially with a 2004, get those rear splines lubed when you put it back together.

2004??? I thought I read, maybe wrongly, that the rear prop shaft spline lube problem was in mid 2000 to mid 2001. Mine is a 2005 and I purchased it in Dec 2004 so it was built in 2004. Should I be concerned? To your knowledge, is there documentation as to when that quality control problem happened at the assembly plant, and was there a service bulletin sent to dealers advising them to lube the splines during dealer set up? If I can find the actual dates, I'll challenge my dealer about it.

VN750 group indicates that the dry splines seem to be in the late 2003, 2004 models.

It's a check that is actually easier to do then it sounds and worth the time to be reassured that yours are lubed. the consequences can be costly.
My 2000 was fine but we relubed anyway with the Honda moly 60
