OK, I'm not exactly very handy when it comes to mechanical stuff. I put the key in the ignition, it starts, I ride! However my Vulcan has been sitting for 2 years. I managed to take the bike out of the garage, got it started after some time, and took it out on the road. My bike was sluggish, and when I'm around 4k rpm I need to upshift to get more speed and make it run better. Ugh. I joined this website to read threads about how to fix my bike myself. So SeaFoam in the tank, let it sit for a day or 2 and drove it around a bit. The same results. I didn't want to make a bad thing worse so I took it down to the local Kawasaki dealer. They said my bike was running on 1 sparkplug and the carb needed to be cleaned (I figured as much from reading these threads). Well I needed only $40.00 worth of parts!!! Awesome!! Labor however cost me $620.00 mmmm not so good 8( But now my bike runs like it is brand new and I don't have to worry about ruining the engine. I needed new air filters because of some mice (I'm sure my cat finally got), a screw (part number 33-7824), and 2 pin hairs (part 39092). I guess I learned my lesson, take care of the bike even when you don't ride it.:doh:

Very True...always do your routine maintenance even when sitting...the off season is a great time to really go through and inspect your entire bike, and fix anything that might cause problems the fallowing season. also by doing this you will learn a lot about your bike to save you from having to pay llabo fees. I work on everything I own my self... especially after paying a mech 700 bucks to replace an engine in my truck and he never did anything in the 6 months he had it (all I was paying for was the labor to replace it since I already had the spare engine.)

Yep, you'll find all you need to know for just about any/all mainteneance needs. And if ya don't find it, just ask. :smiley_th
