hello everyone.

I am a 19 year old student. I just passed my MSF course and bought myself a used Vulcan 750 with 31k miles on it. My question is how long will this bike take me? The guy said 60k-80k miles and since the bike had a good maintenance record and seemed in great condition I have little doubt that it will. But who on here can say from experience how long it will go? I plan on taking care of it (premium gas, regular oil check/change air filter etc). My second question is how is the gas mileage. I am at a mile high here at school and I figure I'll get better mileage but slightly less power with a leaner mixture. Anyway answers are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Josh

I've only got a bit over 4,000 miles on my 04 VN 750, so I can't say for sure how many miles it will go before the junk heap, but with proper maintenance it should go a long way. I get 45 to 55 miles per gallon in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Kawasaki and my dealer recommend using 87 octane gas, which seems to be what most VN 750 owners do. I don't know if the higher altitude would justify going to premium gas, but I doubt it is necessary.

Good luck and ride safe.

Good news is.. you don't have to use premium gas. Our bikes run very well on regular. Oil changes at 3000 miles and if you don't have a maintenance free battery in the bike yet, get one! It will save you from the weekly battery checks and those damaging battery acid spills/overflows

If it makes you feel any better, mine has 41,000+ on it. It's not the greatest running thing in the world (I bought it VERY used), but it DOES still run!

Mine has 31,000 on it and I've had the eng/trans cases off and everything looks like it only had a 1,000 miles on it. I've had to replace the gaskets, but thatw as about it.

I wouldn't suggest running too lean of mixture...you're only asking for the bike to break down before it would have.
