Congratulations! It does make so much difference to have the AGM battery and the Iridium plugs!

The backfiring on deceleration isn't really something to fix, since that's the way it comes from the factory, but if you want to try to eliminate it, go ahead!

Just gotta plug the hoses going to the reed valves (marbles do a great job) if you want to keep it looking original and it's also very cheap (just find 2 marbles to stick in there) and you can reverse it if you need to have it inspected for emissions.

Other way to go is buy coasters.

I marbled mine but it's still popping, exhaust gaskets are likely leaking. Doubt they've ever been replaced since the bike entered Mexico. I got bigger fish to fry for the moment though.

i did do the marble thing and adjusted the air/fuel screw. I've still got to check to see if there is any kind of exhaust leak.

one way to stop a lot of the popping is during normal stops, roll off of the throttle and don't gear down suddenly with the throttle fully closed, the high vacuum situation is what causes the bike to suck in excess fuel that does not burn completely and when mixed with cool outside air, sucked in to the exhaust through a leaking exhaust gasket.

More than likely you do need to replace your exhaust flange gaskets. That along with a little change in riding style will go a long way towards stopping the pop on decel.

I actually liked the popping on de-accelleration. Reminded me of my old Austin Healy 3000.

Guess since I prefer QUIET pipes, the little bit of popping when I downshifted made me feel the bike stood out from the rest....and that the bike was angery with me for slowing down..................

After I put V&H on mine, it would pop on decel. That was before the jet kit of course. One way I got it to stop poppin' completely before the kit was, whenever I pulled the clutch lever in, I'd snap the throttle closed. That stopped the poppin' completely. Of course it became a habit I had to break after installing the jet kit but it still worked while I needed it to.
