I just say an advertisement from a company called NUVIZ about a device that attaches to your helmet that will provide you with a Head Up Display. Looks very cool. Aside from the very little on the ad, I don't know anything about it. Several weeks ago I was researching auto-type GPS/HUD devices. Garmin makes one that sits on your dash and projects the image to your windshield but it requires a smartphone with the appropriate app. That's cool but kinda weird. Why not have the device be a stand-alone setup? In any event, I had been wondering if that could also be applied to a bike. Has anyone done any research into such a thing or know any more about this NUVIZ device?

This in no way answers your question. I didn't know the Skully helmet company went belly up. Those looked to be pretty cool.

I was kind of wondering about that. After posting this thread I went and looked NUVIS up. (Should have done that first.) Anyway the website gave the impression that the product would be coming out in 2014. Huh? The initial ad that got me started showed up as a current running ad when I was on my yahoo home page. It popped up off to the right side, got my interest and when I clicked on it the ad popped up. It seemed like it was an active, current thing about to happen. Darn, because it looked to be a pretty neat deal. I did learn that it, too, as with the current Garmin product required a smart phone with appropriate app. Anyway, with NUVIS kiboshed I still wonder if the current Garmin product that projects up onto the automobile windshield would work on a bike.

Again today I saw an ad for NUVIZ and this company is not dead. It speaks of 2017 and products will be here soon. It doesn't project the info up on your visor but there is a small, clear "screen" that sticks up that it projects on. That way you can raise your visor and still have the HUD functional. Hmmmm..... it also requires a smartphone which I don't have (I'm a Captain Kirk, flip phone guy on purpose.) If this comes out soon I may have to get a smart phone.

I've seen several HUD concepts for motorcycle helmets. Have yet to see one actually for sale. "Livemap" is supposed to be released this year:

As for the garmin unit. I would guess if you have a windscreen the only issue might be surrounding light...remember there is less ambient light in a car. It likely would be more washed out on a bike, or very dim.
And the fact that it would project the image fairly low, you'd still have to look down to see it. If you raise the GPS unit higher...you might as well just look at that instead, you'd get a clearer image.

I had my GPS mounted on the left handle bar. Was fairly high up, and was easier to use my left hand to hit buttons on it.
