Hey guys, over the course of this winter I hope to accumulate all of the equipment that I'll need to take short motorcycle camping trips this coming season. I'm trying to do it CHEAP too. I would really appreciate if you guys could share what gear you use and any tips or tricks you guys have picked up along the way, as I'm about as green as they come. This will be my second season riding so I have a lot to learn. I'm also looking for destinations on the east coast as I'll be riding out of Annapolis, MD.

So far I've accumulated:

A pair of vanson leather riding pants that zip into my vanson jacket so I'll have a legit set of riding leathers. I bartered for the jacket to the tune of roughly $100 and found the pants on ebay for $100. SCORE!! :pepper::beerchug:

A set of FieldSheer rain gear on ebay for $30 bucks on ebay. I still need to get boot covers.

MSR Whisperlite Universal camp stove (brand new, clearance, coupon, and gift card. I payed $70). This stove can take almost any type of fuel. Even unleaded gasoline! I've got a small mess kit with a small pot and pan.

ENO OneLink sleep system, Amazon $200. It's just a camping hammock that comes with a bug net and tarp. I'm really excited about this because I looove camping and being in the woods but I always end up exhausted by the end of trips because I don't sleep well on the ground. I already have a good sleeping bag.

Ideas, input?

as much as I agree with that.......he said he was in MD.! or at least that is where he will be camping. so, the whole "backpack gun" thing may not work out too well in MD!

You got that right...lol... I've got that but... The wife usually helps me pack going, and I seem to have room, my trouble comes when I try to get everything back in the bags to go home, sometimes I even think I may have to leave something...lol...
Have a good one...Old Dog...

Tuvoc, your gear you already have is pretty much what I use, minus a couple Sharp knives 550 paracord (which I also make paracord bracelets that come in handy that I'm getting ready to start selling), and a bed roll. I have a hammock with bug net I sleep in, I keep the bed roll if I don't feel like hanging the hammock I just lay it on the ground, place bedroll inside, and pitch up the net portion. Also I keep a roll of plastic drop cloth I use to tarp over the hammock for rainy days. The more you know the less you need right? I also made a stove outta a beer fan than runs off of 90% rubbin alcomohol.

....if ya got two redheads goin, ya DONT camp....ya get a motel room with a hot tub and fridge... ;)

And I dunno if they still make em, but I used to have an Armalite AR-7 .22LR...barrel unscrews and goes into the stock, it floats, is light...8rd mag. semi auto.

Looks like Henry has em....

I shot a lotta squirrels and rabbits with mine....

If yer headdin up this way to NY at all, its a 7 rd limit, btw...

Ive used those hammock things (we called em jungle hammocks)....a LOT easier to set up, but ya gotta find the right 2 trees... ;)....they are nice though....
Helps to bring a waterproof tarp too (10x12 is fine) to cover your campfire and daytime area (and bike)...

Bring some form of money, but not "just" plastic...you get into some fringe areas, and they only talk cash....

That 10/22 is really nice...I'm not allowed to shoot my dad's anymore since I embarrassed him at the range.

A small hatchet to cut any wood you might need, water proof matches. I bought a half shelter for camping like I had in boot camp. X2 on the paracord, and extra stakes, duct tape.

For a larger group, we used to use surplus cargo chutes....if ya get the ripstop tight, it will shed water well...hole in the center so you can cook/have a fire inside....we had 12 guys in one comfortably (in winter !)....we put 2 together once(paragarage) and the one housed the bikes.....I sheit you not....chutes are light too....
