Anyone try to fit a low profile rear tire? There's lots of talk here about the 170 X 80 series, how about a 150 X 50 series for a more modern look and lowering the rear so the fender is closer to the tire?

I am no expert on the subject, but I would be cautious about installing tires with radically different cross sections than the bike was designed for. I think you at least want to have front and rear tire with a cross section compatible with each other.

On the other hand, there are those who have gone to the ''Darkside'', and installed automobile tires on the rear wheel, inspite of dire warnings that this could never work, and they were bound to come to an untimely end. Many of them are still driving entirely safely on the same rear tire while their peers have worn out 2 or 3 mc tires in the same time.

So dt, it comes down to your experience and ability to control the bike while learning how this new tire profile/cross section will handle, in conjunction with whatever front tire you are running. Start your practice sessions slow, and gradually increase your speed if you decide to try one of these tires. Good luck, and let us know how things turn out if you do mount a low profile tire.:smiley_th
