If you check out this post, I found an aftermarket CDI that might be cheaper than OEM.
I have NOT used one yet, nor do I own one yet, but I intend to. This brand is well known in the tuner market. Send them an email. They speak good English and are very responsive (given the timezone difference). They offer a plug & play wiring connection for the VN750. I have put in the stock timing into a program and I am attaching a screenshot. It's a pretty easy curve to program in.
I am not going to send the full config file, because I haven't tested it yet, and I don't want to be responsible for damages.
From page 15-7 of the service manual:
5 deg from 0 to 1,100 RPM
Linear rise from 5 @ 1,100 rpm to 25 deg @ 3,500 RPM
Constant 25 deg from 3,500 to 8,500 RPM
(7,000 - 8,500 RPM not shown in the manual, but assumed)
The module also gives you an optional rev limiter!
Having personally missed a shift and ran the engine out passed 11,000 RPM.....I'd like to have this feature!
