Is It Just Me or Did Tires Jump in Price Over the Past Three Weeks?

Wow. The rear tire is $50 higher, and the front is up $30-40.

Really wanted the Shinko 777 but might settle for the 734 since I may be selling the bike anyway.

$258 for the 777 in a two tire deal is the best I can find, at Chaparral.

I find that sellers are having a field day raising prices on used parts I see trashed gas tanks selling or listed for 300.00 to 400.00 . Then a NOS one for 700.00 with scratches from shelf storage inflation is driving greed

I thought I might wait a week and see if any new listings come up.

Chaparral is $2 cheaper if you buy from their website instead of on eBay.

Tanks have always been high and wrecked if they're selling used. $700 for a new one is way too much, got mine factory new for $225-250 on eBay, never used. I got lucky.

Pretty much if you're buying a used tank it's going to need body work. I've got a squeaky clean one with a big crease down the left side.

Then I've seen some that weren't totaled, but the rust inside was big enough to get up and walk away with the tank. :)

It's the writing on the wall I'm afraid. Even if I make a heel toe shifter, my right arm has been acting strange. And I do mean strange.

I searched the entire world and finally found a picture of a 777 front tire. Everyone just uses a pic of the rear tire. But, it's exactly the same tread pattern.

The Tourmaster has different patterns front and rear, and I'm not crazy about the Tourmaster front pattern.

The 734 is acceptable for me. Here's the 777 front, disregard the other front.

Well, I'll post it later, all the buttons are blacked out for posting pictures etc.

Clicking twenty times works I guess....

I guess the 712 isn't bad, 712 rear is the same pattern as this front. I like these better than the Tourmaster.

The Tourmaster was a good tire, but I just didn't like the front tread pattern.

I got front and rear Metzeler ME888 Marathon Ultra tires and it cost me $390. But I think these will last a very long time. Or at least I hope so.

The metzlers will wear like iron I have them on both bikes I used to have Dunlop and they were scary riding over metal bridges did not track well

Just picked up the oversized front and rear 777's for $241 at MotoSport.com. That's the best I could find. I was in a hurry to get somthing on the way. I spent about an hour looking.

They're $252 now before tax and shipping, but that's an oversized rear and stock front because they don't list the oversized front tire.
Finally found a set of Michelin Commander in the right size, but they're too expensive if I don't get to use them. Never could find the Pilot or Pilot Road. Avon is even richer than Michelin, and the tread pattern is mostly slick smooth rubber.

Looks like I'm about to order the Shinko 777, $258/pair (oversized)

The Shinko 230 Tourmaster is still a viable budget tire that works very well, then the 712, 734, 777 by price. Though I prefer the tread on the 777 and 734.

I don't like the center line they use on the 230 and 712, though I have no performance issues to justify that. I got 6200 miles on the 230. The rear has threads showing.

I'll try checking with motosport again, maybe their site doesn't work on my phone.

I found it, same price as yours, but with tax the set is $258, same as Chaparral.

At least they're available this time around, nobody had a set last time I shopped.

The most expensive Shinko is the SR999 Long Haul. $170 for the rear, $115 front (oversized).

Technically the Smoke Bomb model is probably the most expensive but doesn't come in our size.
If I really wanted to go cheap just to sell it, there's the Cruz. $166/pair. But there's that center line again.

Ha! One day later I found a set of the SR999 for only $10 more than the 777. Decisions, decisions.

Can get the Dunlop D404 set for $210, but I've seen the rear with cupped tread while still a long way from being worn out.
Just got my new oversize 777's on the bike. Dang, ... what a job, even with tie wraps !
Before using the tie wraps, I started buggering the back rim a bit, so I dogged off, and went to Arbor Freight. While I was there, went ahead and got the wheel truer for ~$49. I did make one additional step in the tie wrap process. Once I got the tire in the rim valley, I went ahead and added a tie wrap to hold the tire tightly in the valley. Each time I could, I tightened a bit more. That seemed to keep the tire from slipping so much. Anyway, what a job. On a side note, after using the truing stand, I found that I had to add quite a bit of weight to the rim for balance on the wheel. Not really happy with that. I was thinking I would assess the total weight, and get lead in stead of steel. Not only that, but I feel like the stick-on weights might get slung off.
That oversize front tire really does fill the fender! Can't wait to see how she handles once the weather clears.
