Couple days ago i had to remove my tank from the bike so i could get to the "air intake box". I left the tank on my doormat ( doormat=dirty :BLAM: ). Anyway after putting everything back together i decided to go on a lil ride in the country side.
here is the problem:
at any gear from 2800 rpm to 3400 rpm the bike is chugging "big time". It seems like there is too much or not enough gas going through:BLAM:. it takes a while for the bike to go through that RPM range but once it passes it, the bike runs fine. Sometime the RPM just drops to zero and the bike shuts down. And it's a pain in the butt to restart, it will eventually start with a strong smell of gas.
PLEASE HELP....any input???

ps: it's very embarrassing when you are at a signal light....people will honk at you cause your going very slow....:BLAM::pepper:

I doubt that you got your dirty doormat in your system. What you probably got is a fuel line kinked or something. Check all your vacuum hoses, including the one going to the right ear, your fuel hoses including the vacuum hose going to the petcock and your carbs.

The bike is dying due to lack of gas, air or fire. I doubt the fire is the issue... That leaves gas or air.

1. Check your fuel lines. Make sure that you don't have a kink in the lines.

2. There is a vacuum that comes off of a T-connector on the carbs. It should connect to spot on the right Ear (ari filter housing). Make sure this is not bottomed out or clogged. Most people cut it off at a 45degree angle.

3. Seafoam, Seafoam, Seafoam. If the bike sat for a while there is probably some gunk in the tank that is clogging the system. Get a can of seafoam from the local autoparts store. Add some to the gas tank and let it run until you know you have some in the carbs. Then let it sit over night. This should clean out the system.

I had a similar thing happening to me awhile back after I removed my gas tank and un-intentionally disconnected all of the gas/vacuum lines with the petcock open (obviously I didn't know what I was doing-newbie). For about 3 days I couldn't get out of the garage because it acted like the bike was flooded, wouldn't idle, and actually had gas dripping out of the exhaust whenever I'd try to start it. I'm 90% sure that I got gas in my vacuum line. My oil smelled strongly of gas and had to be changed (thanks to this forum for catching that), and after doing that and about 3 days of sitting and making sure none of the lines from the petcock to the carbs were kinked, things cleared up. I kind of got lucky because I also had a good dose of Seafoam in the tank when I did all of this....so I'm not sure if the 3 days of sitting allowed that to clean up some mess somewhere in the lines, a float to un-stick, the gas to clear out of the vacuum line, or what happened. Regardless I'm back in business. Hope that helps some...good luck!

Problem solved.
I bought some fuel line and replace all the stock ones just to be sure 100%.
for some reason i think the OEM fuel line are really too short.
Sure enough after a couple hours of work and a lot of swet ( east texas = 106 F @ 6PM...hot hot) KAWA started like a champ and ran like new.
