For the tank, I’d trace out a backing piece out of plastic or rubber, and either epoxy it in place or use some flat head bolts to hold it down. Counter sunk so the back is flat.
Then use super glue or 3M double face tape (traced out to fit like the backing) The superglue would of course damage the paint if you ever want to remove it.
You could use some of those neodymium magnets behind the backing (two up top, one on the bottom)
Rare Earth Magnets, 10 Pc.

Yes the 3M tape I was referring to is what they used to put the Vulcan emblems on the tank (and side covers?) It can be removed by heating the emblem carefully with a hair drier or heat gun, and using some fishing line or dental floss to run down the back to separate it.
