Fuel Petcock ’86 vn750

I just rebuilt the leaking fuel tank petcock, installed tank on bike and dumped a gallon of fuel in. I needed to remove remove tank again, and when I pulled the fuel lines off the petcock, fuel poured out of the petcock.

The petcock has “Pri” , “On”, & “Pri” settings.

Question: Doesn’t the vacuum from the left carb control the petcock fuel flow ?
Any assistance is much appreciated.

Yes the petcock should only flow when vacuum is applied.... unless you have it in the 'PRI' position. Then it will flow no matter what. That position is only used to prime the float chambers. But when 'ON' or 'RES' no fuel should flow at all until engine runs. Did a new diaphragm come with the rebuild kit? If gas flows in those other positions I wonder if the diaphragm spring is seated correctly.

Yes, something along that line is wrong. I will take it apart tomorrow in attempt to correct my wrongs.
