I just synched the carbs on my 1997. They were ok, no adjustment needed. The adjustment screw still had locktite on it. Mine does not have a prime position. I used a vacuum line T from Autozone. I have a big plastic jar of them, all shapes and sizes. I used a Motion Pro mercury synchronizer I bought before they quit making them. Synchronizing carbs is becoming a lost art with the advent of EFI. I always got a lot of satisfaction out of it. Purely mechanical, no computers involved.

I’ll point out that if you have multiple throttle bodies on an EFI bike, you still need to sync them. (My FJR for instance had 4) The procedure is similar to a carb’d bike and requires a vacuum gauge for each throttle body.

Generally in a CV carbureted bike, you really just need to visually make sure each slide opens at the same time. Easy to do if you have quick to remove pod filters, not easy at all if you have the stock intake plumbing.
