Hello everyone,
I need help on installing a pair of progressive front fork springs to lower my bike.
Any suggestions would help.

I just did mine its not that hard at all took me all of an hour. The biggest thing to rember is a clothes hanger to get the old springs out. I did not have any as i only use plastic hangers i had to rig up a part of a lamp and a paper clip to fish mine out. :doh:

One tricky part if u want to modify the stanless preload spacers (progessive recomends 7 inches and the stock ones are like 10 or so take them to a place with a band saw dont try a hacksaw LOL its harder to cut them straight.

I managed to do mine by my self so good luck.

search for tire inflator valves

hello ; can someone post the website for those 90 degree tire inflators? i mean the ones you screw on and off to top off the tire pressure. as you know what a pain it is to inflate with the short and straight up factory stems. if they are not to be found was thinking of breaking the beads and installing 45 degree valves..will the standard available sizes fit ok ? and if they are metal will they affect the tire balance. summit has a pair of all chrome and reaonable price. thanks, ken

Just found with a search, I haven't dealt with the company at all.

Yep, standard size will work for the screw on one. If you meant the entire, rubber based, replacement valve, I think you'll need smaller than standard size there, but I'm not sure.. If you leave the screw on ones on, yes, they'll affect the balance.

Thanks for the replies . On further consideration I went to harbor freight and bought a couple of tire chucks with the clip for $2.99 each. ( item#46788-ovga).These are 90 degree inflators.I put one on my 110 volt air compressor and one on my portable 12 volt air compressor that i keep in my saddle bag with the tire plug kit. I feel this was the simplest way to solve the awkward chore of adding air to the tires. thanks again , ken

Hey guys
Thanks for all the tips. I finally did it. However, I need to adjust my rear springs to stiffer setting to prevent my bike from scraping the bottom.

I just did the progressive fork replacement on my vn750.. made it a brand new bike! Thanks to everyone who has posted on this topic. I was able to prepare for the job and complete it within 2 hours (1.5 for the first side, 30 min for the other side). Just a couple of notes I would like to add:
- do not remove the forks (don't know why some people say to, including the Kawaski/Honda shop in Manassas!)
- I used 20W fork oil, works great on all roads.
- I used the PVC pipe for spacers, cut it to make the entire length of spring and spacer 1/4 inch longer than org, perfect preload!
- replaced front tire w/ a dunlap.. gave it a totally new ride, very trustable! Dosen't grab lines in the road anymore!
