Good save. You obviously looked twice and it is hard to believe you couldn't see the truck, however, the A pillar on my dodge ram pickup is only about 6" wide and has blocked entire vehicles from my view as well. Glad it worked out OK for all! There was no damage anywhere. Best I can tell my engine guard had hit his wheel, or more likely his tire, as there were no marks on his wheel or on my engine guard.
The discussion was quite civil, other then a WTF from his side of things as he got out of the vehicle.
It's quite possible he was speeding. the posted limit there is 25mph, and it took me about 10 seconds to reach where I stopped AFTER I cleared the car in front of me at the red light. It was approximately 6-7 seconds from the point my brother looked away from the direction of the light (and a clear street) to the time I impacted the side of the truck. Also, when still framing through the video (at least the original) you can see how high the truck bed rose from the force of braking.
HOWEVER, I'm not sure that's really enough to say that the guy was speeding excessively.
It's possible that my brother sitting in the position he was, was enough to block my line of sight, even though I did lean forwards and backwards to try and look around him.
I still maintain that when I looked, I saw a completely empty street.
Without having a camera on my helmet to have captured my point of view, it's pretty much impossible to get any more details.
How did the approaching truck not see that other truck pulling onto the road? Seemed like it could have stopped.
maybe that "Harley Davidson" Ford F150 truck doesn't like Kaw's? :wow:
