Hi all! With weather getting cooler, I'd like to see if you guys can help me find some gear.

I'm thinking I'm gonna need a winter jacket and gloves. Need something that is a GREAT deal since I don't have much money to buy gear with. I've seen you guys find great deals, so I'm sure someone could help me out.

I lost all my bookmarks (AGAIN u_u) so I don't really know lots of places to look except for eBay.

I'd like armor in the jacket... preferred colors would be white, red, black. I hate the bright green or yellow, but visibility is a good thing I guess. White is visible and I like it though lol. Definitely something that keeps wind out.

On eBay I keep finding mesh jackets... which I'm guessing won't be great at insulating me from the wind.

Gloves are about the same, need protection from chilling wind. Armor is very welcome.

So if you can give me a site or a specific item to look at, or any advice on choosing the right gear, it will be greatly appreciated.

Also, I do know that good gear is not cheap, but cheap gear could be better than no gear at all and I can't afford the best gear right now.

I have a thin leather jacket that I'm using right now, but it will soon become obsolete if temps keep dropping. I actually use this for protection from the sun lol so I don't think it will do much for me when it gets colder.

Well, thanks in advance for your advice guys and gals!

Oh, I forgot... just about everything I wear is M size. I've noticed some jackets are only available in larger sizes :-/

Alot of options here. But if you are looking for "value priced" gear... Look at the BILT line at Cycle Gear:
http://www.cyclegear.com/

Another good option is a one piece "over suit" that fits over your clothes. You can go cheap by getting an unarmored one like this:

Or a bit more for one with armor you can just wear street clothes under:

I have a Jacket quite similar to this one and it works pretty well in cold damp weather and has the armor, and it is quite a bit less than C-note.I have had good luck with mine,It's warm, decent quality, especially for the price. Be sure to read the size charts and the reviews.

Not Tourmaster but a good value and the waterproof label is not completely accurate, you will get damp in a down pour, but light showers it will handle.

Bottom line, great jacket for the price and I have had really good luck with their stuff so far and they ship quick as well. There are different colors available also, and if you don't like it you aren't out a small fortune.

I have been there and had to watch my spending on extras before,so I kinda know where you are coming from.Hope this helps:)

A jacket similar to which one?

Not too worried about rain. It very rarely rains here, and when it does, it's just a few drops most of the time.

Knifemaker, those suits would be great if I had some saddlebags or anything else to put it in that I wouldn't have to carry.

I'll take a look at that brand as well. Thanks!

Not following you here....carry what? You wear the suits when you ride and take them off when you get to your destination... You wear your jacket all day at work??

I have a locker at work to stow my gear.... And I have room to store them on my bike... But don't.

There's no difference between a one piece suit and a riding jacket with pants other than the "one piece" part.

I have no locker at work :(

and yea, I gotta carry around my helmet, jacket and a laptop bag I use as a briefcase... which sucks.

They're also a bit expensive for me right now.

Cool, thanks! I was just looking at them.

How was the fit for you? Did you need one size larger than for your usual clothing?
I wear an XL T-shirt and I got a XXL jacket. I wanted to have room to wear a sweatshirt under it because I'm an idiot and ride when the temp is in the 30's.

X2 on the iron pony too. I got a couple helmets from their ebay store a few weeks ago.

Cool, it seems the general rule is to get a size up. There's an Xelement jacket on there for 40 bucks... but it's a mesh jacket. Would be great for when it's warm, but wind chill just kills me.

Also thinking about how to insulate my helmet... I get lots of air inside it even with the vents closed.

So far, with the nice prices and the coupon code that wvshaneb posted, I'm really leaning towards leatherup! But I'm gonna check out ironpony next and see what I can find.

Great help guys, thanks!

Ceal.....you asked about insulating your helmet...well, from those of us who still ride when it's cold....check this out:

https://www.denniskirk.com/schampa/warmskin-balaclava.p354655.prd/354655.sku

I'm not necessarily recommending this particular item....but rather just the concept itself. There are many variations of this product....find one that suits your tastes & climate.

These are one of your best friends when it gets chilly out on a bike......:)

Yea, I was thinking about something similar :)

The main problem for me is wind in my eyes though, which is why I'm thinking of how to get the visor to seal when I close it.

That's definitely a good recommendation though and it's bookmarked. Thanks!

That's a pretty sharp lookin jacket. I like the gray and black.... and the price of course :smiley_th
Yea, I like it too, but they only have 3XL and 4XL... damn... u_u

I use leatherup.com for stuff, but I am just getting into buying gear myself. Don't forget to check Army/Navy surplus stores. They will have cold weather gear. It is usually cheap and durable.

Army/Navy surplus stores? Never seen any of those online... I live in Mexico and currently can't go to the U.S. since my visa expired, and there's nothing like that here.

Today I had to be at work at 7am and my usual thin leather jacket's zipper decided to break... I went searching in my closet for old jackets to see what I had stored and found one that got me through today. I don't think it's leather, but something similar... no wind gets trough it. Only bad thing is that it's kinda low on the neck area, so I get a full blast of cold air to my neck. Can be remedied though with some kind of neck warmer or something.

I'm having trouble ordering a jacket because of the sizes. Seems like nothing I like is available in my size or one up :-/
