Replacing rod bearings and crankshaft on a '01 VN750 with 6,736 miles. Clymer manual (pg 248, #12) says "Slide the two washers on (Figure 60).". Problem is that I don't have two washers lying around, and even Partzilla doesn't show two washers at the end of the countershaft after 1st gear (next to the right side case). The main shaft does have two washers against the left side case, but I have nothing at the opposite side of the gear train .

Anyone had the same problem? What am I missing?

I can't vouch for the Clymer VN750 manual, but other Clymer manuals I've used are inaccurate or give bad info. If it had softer paper, Clymer manuals would make suitable toilet paper, which is about all it's good for IMO.

Get a Kawasaki manual and see what it says on the subject. There's a link to a free one in some member's (Spockster?) signature.

I know it is confusing but I believe they are referring to the washers shown on page 242, Figure 29. The washers are on the end of the mainshaft/1st gear. They slide up to the larger, 4 gear. Because they are telling you to slide the assembly together the 1st gear is on one end and the 2 washers go on last (the end of the shaft on the end opposite the 1st gear). If you look at the photos on page 242 the 2 washers are shown in the correct order. Good luck.

Thanks flitecontrol. I have that manual as well and there's no mention of it there. Exploded parts diagram (either manual or Partzilla) doesn't show washers there, either. I may just cross that line out of my manual...?

Think you're ok, verified in two other places, so good chance it's an error.

I've found some critical errors in the Haynes manuals also, for car engines. Did what you did, verified in other manuals and the internet.

Makes it tough to just take their word on everything.
