So I parked my bike at work after topping off the tank and saw this big black spot on the asphalt underneath it! Under closer inspection the stuff was black on my hand and smelled like oil. I thought my bike had an oil leak and was in line for some costly repairs. Turns out the black stuff was just the tar from the asphalt being softened by the gas that had leaked from my tank. The good news is no oil leaks!

But my question is, is it normal for some gas to come out of the tank when it's parked on the side stand and REALLY full or should I just not fill it up as much if I plan on parking it?

The air in the tank will expand when it gets warm, pushing the gas out of the tank.

If your tank is really full, parking it on the centerstand will help stop it from leaking (or, not filling it really full!! LOL)
