Hello, Vulcanoids.

I just recently bought my Vulcan ('94) and I'm looking to 'pimp my ride' with some accessories; alas, I know very little about engineering, mechanicking and electric installations, so it seems I'm condemned to buying stock aftermarket accessories, and taking them to a mechanic to install. Thus, I'd like recommendations for good commercially available upgrades in following categories:

- Gauges. Rims & glass on my twin gauges are in a sad condition, and I'm considering replacing them. Since i'm doing that anyway, I wouldn't mind putting something 'cool-looking'...

- Cargo / saddlebags rack. I'd like some cargo space on my Vulcan. As I see it from the forums, my options are 'back rack' or saddlebags - I prefer saddlebags for cool factor, but as I have little actual experience, suggestions for both are welcome.

- Seat. Mine is kind of battered and a bit torn, and well, ain't a pretty sight. So any recommendations for aftermarket seats or good bike seat re-coverers in northern Colorado would rock.

Thank you all in advance for all the feedback!

I'm new to the VN750 myself, my 06 is just over 100 miles. First thing to do I learned here is make sure your battery is a maintenance free type, and right after that, check the splines on the drive shaft for lube!

I have a Kawaski Fire and Steel Rear rack on my 750 on which I have a Chase and Harper Sport Tail Trunk attached. Cool or not it holds a gallon of milk, my jacket,my wife's jacket, a notebook, glasses case, gloves, with room to spare.

for the seat, you can take it to anyone that does custom jobs for pickups and so on.....ask some local shops, they may know some good ones... CCspinner used memory foam in his, and i am looking at doing the same.

as far as saddle/tail bags go. how often will u carry stuff. if often go with the saddles. lower center of gravity means better handling vs the other. draw back is that they arent easily removed, and some need minor mods. tail bags are easily removed (most attach with bunge hooks) but are higher on the bike.

dont know what to tell you bout ur gauges.... dont know of any aftermarkets....

Here's a couple of replies, and clarifications...

KKen: Fire & Steel rack looks very cool... if I decide to do rack (as opposed to saddles), this might be my champion ;) Thanks!

Re: Seat: This is what I'm looking at right now: it looks sweet, and from what I've heard, Corbin seats rock: http://www.corbin.com/kawasaki/8696vulcan.shtml

Re: Luggage: I usually have a moderate amount of things to haul around - maybe a backpack's worth, laptop included. I'm still trying to decide if I want extra cargo space for future longer trips.

Re: Gauges: I found some cool ones:http://baronscustom.com/html/catalog/moreinfo.html?productguid=146A7081-1C27-A5DD-0390-5BC46F97EBDE looks pretty kickass - but, alas, I can't find a matching speed/odometer unit.

Also, i've spotted several photos & references to 'custom' side vents to replace those funky plastic side-vents on my vulcan, but couldn't find any specifics. Any suggestions?
