Front wheel wobble

344 Views 28 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  taco_to_go
For around a year I have noticed a mild front wheel wobble:

1. Low speed, about 30 or less
2. Under deceleration if I pull off power and loosen grip on the bars
3. Mild at first but shake increases if allowed
4. Not there under acceleration or cruising

I have tried:

1. Keeping proper inflation of a very good front tire, size 110-90-19
2. Loosening the forks, eyeballing alignment, insured all clamps ok
3. Checked for play in wheel bearings (none)
4. Squaring up the windshield and lower deflectors
5. No disc brake rotor dragging

The bike has 43,000 mi; never damaged anywhere; fork oil should still be balanced from the seals I put in 3 or 4 years ago; rear shocks not pressurized with air but suspension equally set.

Anyone else ever deal with this?

Where did you get the fork stabilizer piece?
New tire was balanced?

Check the stem/neck bearings?

Since you eyeballed the fork alignment you might need to reset them by following these steps.

Yeah, I lose track of time. Probably been long enough since that tire was installed that I need to take it off and check the balance.

I've noticed some head shake on mine, but I know I had some fork alignment issues. Once it tried to do a tank slapper at high speed but I don't remember if it was on decel or full throttle.

Waiting to get tires and then I'll be doing the fork alignment.

I just received a call from super brace. He still has some of them in stock. The price is $99 for the super brace plus & 20 if you want the fork protector plus shipping. . That is an incredible price. I paid around 300..00 I think he has them in stock. I guess he doesn’t sell them too often but it’s a good opportunity for you and I think it’ll cure your problem. If you call him just tell him that a guy from the Vulcan group called if you want to get the fork protectors have him drill the holes in super brace and include the screws for attachment fork protectors are just curved stainless steel polished covers that you screw into the super brace and it covers the first 2 inches of the forks so they don’t get stones hits. If anybody else is reading this post I would tell you to snap them up at that price. Its very well-made product does an excellent job. I am not connected tI would tell you to snap them up at that price. It’s a very well-made product does an excellent job. I am not connected to this company in any way shape I have two motorcycles Both have the four protectors and the super brace. Let me know if you what you decide.

Fork braces for the VN are hard to find, I've just been looking.

I used the Ride On liquid on my tires, it stays balanced and gives you puncture protection. Looks like they did away with their Dents and Dings section where you could get it at a discount.

I - for one - would be in for purchase of the Super Brace. Price up to $99 plus shipping to zip 87107. He could make a little over $500 selling 6 braces at $85. Not bad for old out of demand stock just gathering dust.
