My friends 1994 VN750 front brake light switch did not work when she bought the bike recently. The brake did work with the foot pedal. I checked for burnt fuses and found all were OK. I dropped the switch down after checking it for continuity, fining none. I tried electrical contact cleaner until I realized the push pin had nospring tension. I took the switch apart only to find the contacts burnt and the pieces a jumbled up mess. We are installing a new switch but I'm curious if this could have been caused by and intermittant short or ground during the pervious owership?

Could be an intmittent short; could be worn contact(s) causing high resistance just in the switch with subsequent overheating, but given the failure mode with no fuse blown, I would suspect the switch is the only problem.
