this is the bike with the left side of frame cut off by po. we found a donor frame and got a section. before fitting and after. note the v section cut out of middle of picture. sorry about the quality. v cut out served a separate use as i was missing the v off of the side cover. total coincidence the v fit almost perfect. need to paint to match and attach.

waiting on frame weld this weekend and then time to reassemble bike. :smiley_th

Those pictures are way too small to see anything. They need to be like 6"x8". I would not try to save a cut up frame. Look for a complete frame with a title. If you do decide to weld in a section, I hope you are a good welder. I have found Japanese motorcycle frames to be a lot thinner than I originally thought they were. I don't think they can be safely butt welded without some kind of reinforcement.

sorry about pix. they looked fine in the mebers gallery when i brought them from phone to thread. will try to take some better photos that don't exceed limit.

we have slugs inside of the tubes to reinforce them. talked with a body guy that has made his own bike and he said it would be a strong enough weld.

Looks good. Putting slugs in there was definitely a good idea. If the frame is straight, and you trust the welding, I'd say it is ok. I wish Kawasaki had put the removable section on the left instead of the right, that way the stator could be replaced without pulling the engine. The GL1200 has it on the left.

I see ya stick welded? Any special reason for that? Whit the thin steel It might have made it more brittle ya think. I had done the same Mod last fall, plus I halve pipe clamped her.Im sure she has less Vibrations then she did before. Ya had a good idea.Now if ya need another stator(which you should never need one) it will only take 1 hr and out on the road again.

I have wondered if there is any good reason why Ma Kaw couldn`t have put a removable sub-frame on BOTH sides of the Vulcan frame instead of just one side?

The only reason that I can see is that some unskilled owner might try to take both sides off at the same time, resulting in damage or injury. :doh:

That looks like a fluxcore wire feed gas less.
Kinda a hot welder but easy to control, the slug was a great idea, you did sand teh rust off first after that picture right. Rust will kill a weld.
