I have the left fork off. I have taken off the seal and dust boot. The bottom part of the fork(that calipers attach to) is completely disassembled.

I can not see how the top part comes apart.

Under the top cap is a threaded stud sticking up that the cap screws onto.

The brass (I think) piece the stud is part of appears to completely cover the inside top of the tube. I do not see where I could press it down to get the spring clip out.

This "The top of the fork... This was a real mutha to get off if you don't know how. We used a 13mm socket with an extention to press down on the cap while Chad slipped the C-ring off with a small screw driver. Notice the C-ring hooked in my index finger. Keep your hand on the top of the fork when doing this because the pressure from the spring could send the whole top flying into a dusty dirty corner of the garage never to be seen again." is the part I am having trouble with.

Any help?

What is the problem, I helped Bulldog with his and easer with 2 people but possable with one. We did use a socket and extention to move the top plug to get to the clip. We did have to tap it with a hammer to get it to move the firts time. Watch for the clip that when you remove it the cap doesn't go flying. The brass piece is a air on older forkes so you cah add air pressure to the shocks. Not sure what the year it changed.
Hope this helps

Thanks, I got it. Emailed back and forth a few times with Bulldog.
Appreciate all the help!
