Hi all.

just got progressive fork springs and I am wondering what is the best weight fork oil for replacement with these springs and any brand better than others?
also how much oil needed for each fork?

thanks, John

Fork oil is sold in three different weights depending on the load expected.

I don't know how/if the progressive springs make any difference in the equation.

5W provides least dampening while 20W provides the most. I weigh 230, almost always ride solo and put 10W in mine and am happy with that.

Here is a page that I put together on replacing the fork seals on a VN750.

I would recommend that you at least look at it as it might provide some guidance in your spring replacement. Keep in mind that you will need to either cut the spacer in the tube or make a new one if you don't want to cut the ones you have. PVC works for a new spacer quite well. I don't remember the exact length, but something tells me that 7-1/4" is about right.

I have Progressive springs and I use whatever the Kaw shop recommended. You might want to examine your seals and decide if you want to replace them while you are taking the front end of the bike apart. It would save you some time later down the road.
