Hey guys,

My 1985 VN 750 (86 engine) is flooding out at idle. It is blowing black smoke but runs fine at 5k rpm. It leaked a big pile of gas all over the garage and the fuel is not shutting off when the engine is off.

Any thoughts?

Sound like stuck float valve, is your petcock set to PRI or On? :beerchug:

Petcock Seal
Could it be that his petcock seal and oring is old, worn, and shot.
I had this problem, changed them and it fixed the leakage,
found a 18 dollar kit for the two o-rings and seal from a canadian company,
if you think that this might help, let me know, and i'll go threw my visa bill to find the company's name and website.

It could be the petcock, but if he has the petcock set on "PRI" it bypasses the shutoff. If he has a stuck float valve it will drain the tank down to the reserve level.

If the petcock o-ring has gone bad and a piece made it to the float valve the result would be the same.

The petcock is in the on position. So it is a stuck float, any thoughts on how to unstick it and keep it that way?
