ok i have a question that kinda has me stumped. I rode my bike up into the mountains ran great going up there until i got about halfway up and it started running like junk. so i figured the allitude was messing with the carbs, so i turned around and the bike never cleared back up. so i checked the spark plugs the rear were covered with fuel and fouled the front looked good. I replaced the plugs and the same thing happened fouled the rear and the front looks good. So i thought maybe some junk got in the carbs so i pulled them and checked the jets they looked good. The only thing i didnt check was the bowls and floats which is where i think my problem is, (afterthought haha) So i was messing with the bike and turned the petcock off and the bike cleared right up and ran really good. So i thought maybe whatever was in the carb cleared up, and i turned the petcock back on and about 30 seconds later the bike loaded up and died. So my idea is that one of the floats are either 1. getting stuck open and just letting the fuel flow in and flooding the bike, 2. or the float filling with fuel and not letting it float to close the valve. before i go any further though i want your guys (gals) opinions cause you really know these bikes. You are on the right track. Only thing that might add is trash on the seat keeping the valve from closing. Tap carb with handle end of screw driver that may help.

Oh just thinking about it. When i had the carbs off the bike i blew into the fuel inlets on each carb, each carb i blew in it in operating position and was able to get air into the bowls. Then flipped the carbs upside down and tried again and both carbs I was not able to blow into the carbs. so i am assuming they are sealing. So if they are sealing when i "bench test" them, does that sound like the float is misajusted or filling with fuel? Or could there still be trash in the carbs? When i did take the carbs apart minus the float bowls they looked really clean. Ok thanks again

Floats could easily become "stuck" during reassembly or installation back onto the bike. I'm a BIG fan of the screwdriver handle method, especially on known good/clean carbs. Carb gremlins are deathly afraid of the screwdriver handle.

well i think the screwdriver trick worked. I just started the bike and basically beat the heck out of the carbs haha. but seems to run pretty good now, but we will see. Thanks for the help
